TSU looks to improve in all three phases
HOUSTON-The Texas Southern Tigers have started practicing in full pads in the triple digit heat of summer days in Texas.

TSU Football head coach Michael Haywood encouraged his team to come back ready to play despite the adverse weather conditions they'll face throughout the remainder of camp.

"Tomorrow we are going to repeat the same practice and try to get some accountability and focus so that we can overcome some adversity," Haywood said.

Haywood is focusing on making sure the team is fundamentally sound and working together as a team in all three facets of the game by their first game against UT- Permian Basin on Saturday, September 1st.

"It's important that as a team we realize that our 2's and 3's have to be dominated on special teams and we haven't made that transition yet," said Haywood. "We have to do a lot better with the 2's and 3's playing special teams so that the starters don't have to play so many plays."

Haywood has instilled his expectations in his leaders. They are paying attention to the small things and aren't letting anything get by. They want to perfect everything related to their craft.

"We don't do a play until we can't get it wrong, we do it until we can get it right. That's our main focus," said TSU QB Jay Christophe.

This season is fundamentally built on the acronym B.A.M; By Any Means.

"Whatever it takes to contribute to the win, we must do it," said Christophe.

Haywood has constantly emphasized why he chose B.A.M to be one of the teams' mottos this season.

"By any means necessary we have to win," Haywood told his team. "When adversity is up against you we have to win. There's no sense in looking up at the clock, It's 60 minutes. We want to be victorious at the end. We want be physically dominant for 60 minutes and take control of the football game."
