TSUSports.com: TSU falls to Jackson State 12-4 on the baseball diamond

JACKSON, Miss. – Jackson State scored the first six runs of the game Saturday and went on to defeat Texas Southern by a score of 12-4.

At Bob Braddy Field in Jackson, the first five Jackson State batters reached base as the hometown Tigers plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Jordan Bolden pitched five and two-thirds innings for Jackson State while allowing no earned runs to pick up the win. TSU's starting pitcher Anthony Martinez gave up four earned runs over the course of one inning to absorb the loss. Relief pitcher Chris Suarez pitched five innings for the visiting Tigers, giving up six earned runs while striking out four batters.

Jackson State improved to 3-3 with the victory. Texas Southern remained winless after its first six games.

Richard Alamo scored two runs for TSU. Olajide Oloruntimilehin and Lance Simmons tallied RBIs for the visiting Tigers. Oloruntimilehin knocked a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth, while Simmons had a pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth inning.

Texas Southern and Jackson State conclude their series Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
