HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Tigers used a strong start in the first half to propel them to a 26-16 win over UT-Permian Basin in their season opener at BBVA Compass Stadium.
TSU quarterback Glen Cuiellette connected with wide receiver Bobby Hartzog for a 39-yard touchdown strike to put the Tigers on the board first at the 9:34 mark of the first quarter bringing the score to 7-0.

Texas Southern took a commanding 14-0 advantage when Cuiellette found Tren'Davian Dickson in the back of the end zone on a 15-yard touchdown catch at the 5:53 mark of the first quarter.

The extra point attempt was blocked and returned for a score as the Tigers led 13-2.TSU would add three points on a 43-yard Aaron Cuevas field goal as time expired in the first half.

The second half would bring about a much more competitive level of play as UTPB sensing the game getting out of reach attempted to mount a comeback.

After watching TSU take a 23-2 lead after a Bryston Cummings touchdown catch at the 2:58 mark of the third quarter the Falcons scored their first touchdown of the night early in the fourth quarter (14:51) on a 2-yard touchdown run by backup quarterback Sam Allen.

TSU would add another Cuevas field goal with 10:37 left to play in regulation. The Falcons would go on to score on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Allen to Ben Galaviz bringing the score to 26-16 with 8:58 remaining which would subsequently be the games' final tally.
