GULFPORT, Miss. – Jade McQueen drove in all four runs as Texas Southern moved on to the second round of the SWAC Tournament following a 4-1 win over No. 2 Jackson State on Tuesday.TSU wasted no time in setting the tone as Kylie Wilson led the game off with a single and moved to second after Destiny Menchaca's sac bunt. Lanay Carr drew a walk but JSU recorded the second out on a popup. With two outs, Jade McQueen broke the ice with a two-RBI double to right center for a 2-0 lead.
After two scoreless innings, TSU returned to the board in the fifth as Jordyn Talbert led the inning off with an infield single and moved to second after a sac bunt from Wilson. Menchaca hit a shot to center and took advantage of a missed cutoff throw to move to second. Carr loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch but JSU recorded the second out after catching a foul ball. With two outs and an 0-2 count, McQueen hit a two-RBI double which ricocheted off the second baseman's glove for the 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, JSU attempted to make things interesting with a runner on first and one out but Zaria Turner forced an inning-ending lineout which saw Menchaca make a leaping catch to close out the inning with a double play. Turner returned to the mound in the bottom of the seventh and sealed the win with a 1-2-3 frame.
TSU will play either Prairie View A&M or Alabama State at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
