HOUSTON – The Tigers of Texas Southern University rallied for a ninth-inning run Tuesday and claimed a 3-2 win at Houston Baptist.

At HBU's Husky Field, Gaudencio Lucca knocked two RBI singles – including the game-winner in the top of the ninth – to lead the Tigers (7-13) to their fourth consecutive win.

After six consecutive scoreless innings for the Tiger bats, it was Lucca's single through the left side of the infield that allowed Jose Cabreja to come home from second base with the game-winning run. Cabreja reached base when he was hit by a pitch from HBU reliever J.T. Newton, and then moved to second on Christian Sanchez' groundout.

Jacob Gilbreath picked up the win in relief for the Tigers, pitching three and two-thirds scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and striking out seven HBU batters. It was Gilbreath's first appearance in a TSU uniform.

TSU starting pitcher Daniel Vasquez pitched four and one-third innings while allowing only an unearned run and striking out one batter.

Lucca opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single that scored Sanchez; Sanchez and Lucca both had two hits in the game for the Tigers. TSU added another run in the second inning when Jose Camacho scored on a passed ball that was also ball four to batter Ryan Diaz.

HBU (8-13) scored runs in fifth and sixth innings to tie the game.

TSU's win helped the Tigers avenge an earlier loss at HBU last month; the Huskies won the first meeting between the two teams 15-3.

The Tigers improved to 3-3 against Southland Conference opponents this season. TSU also claimed wins over Lamar and Abilene Christian earlier in the season.

TSU returns to action Wednesday when they visit Starkville, Miss., for a game at Mississippi State. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
