HOUSTON – Stephen F. Austin pulled away in the late innings Tuesday as the Ladyjacks claimed a 12-5 win over the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University.

At Memorial Park in Houston, Madilynn Marek's (pictured) fifth-inning grand slam provided four of TSU's five runs and pulled the Lady Tigers to within one run of their visitors after falling behind 6-0. It was Marek's second home run of the season.

The visiting Ladyjacks (15-12) scored seven unanswered runs over the last two innings.

Tuesday's game for the Lady Tigers (8-5-1) was the first for the team in the past week after inclement weather forced the postponement of their Southwestern Athletic Conference series with Alcorn State.

TSU catcher Marissa Padron knocked an RBI single to score teammate Marek in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Lady Tigers open their SWAC schedule Friday when they host Jackson State to begin a three-game weekend series at Memorial Park. Friday's game will be aired on ESPNU, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
