HOUSTON - A total of six home games highlight the Texas Southern Tigers football teams' 2015 football schedule. The Tigers will face four Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents while also hosting two non-conference foes.

"We're excited about our upcoming schedule," said TSU head coach Darrell Asberry. "Being eligible to participate in the SWAC Championship is huge for our program and we're glad our schedule gives us the opportunity to play in front of our home crowd on six difference occasions. There's nothing like playing at home where you have the support of your fans, students, and supporters behind you."

Texas Southern will kick-off the season with a familiar opponent as they host rival Prairie View A&M on Saturday, Sept. 5 in the 31[sup]st[/sup] Annual Labor Day Classic.

The Tigers will have one more home game during the month of September as they host Bacone College the following week on Friday, Sept. 11.

TSU will embark on a two-game road swing as the Tigers travel to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Sept. 19) and Jackson State (Sept. 26) before returning to face Alabama State (Oct. 3) at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Tigers will play Mississippi Valley State on the road on Oct. 17, followed by back-to-back home games against Southern on Oct. 24 which will be the Tigers Homecoming game, and the College of Faith on Oct. 31 which will be the Tigers Homecoming game.

A meeting with Grambling State awaits Texas Southern on Nov.7 and the Tigers will conclude the home portion of their schedule on Nov. 14 versus the defending SWAC Champions Alcorn State.

Texas Southern's final regular season match-up for the 2015 campaign is slated for Nov. 28 at Alabama A&M.

RE: 2015 Texas Southern Football Schedule

Does anyone know why this schedule has 2 very weak non conference games, just as last year? Does the Head Coach really expect his team to get better by playing lesser opponents. And the signing class has only 1 Olineman, you always need to keep building the Oline.

The football schedule for Texas Southern has yet to be released but this is what we do know:
*Sep 5/6 Prairie View (Labor Day Classic)
Oct 24 Southern
Nov 14 Alcorn St

*Expected date
The Labor Day Classic is on the 5th since it's at the BBVA.  But I found it interesting there's no money games. Ashberry knows this year will define him as a coach so he put those easy games in to pad the winning percentage in his favor but uh he better show up a/g the SWAC or else.  He has yet to win me over, I still don't like his decision making and play calls ..... I can do a whole lot better.

RE: 2015 Texas Southern Football Schedule

I have to agree i wasn't impressed with the coaching last year at all, a few games were lost due to bad play calling and know in game adjustments. He should also know that it's not just about winning in today's college football, it's also about bringing money into the program, and we all know that's a very important part of an HBCU program. So unless he know's something we don't, if he's here next season, there needs to be a money game on the schedule, plus you can't get better recruits playing a weak non conference schedule.

Exactly, you're so right it's more than winning ... you have to bring money and interest back to the program.  But Ashberry isn't charismatic, so the only way he can do that is by winning and there's no excuse this year.  In 2015, we are off all NCAA sanctions so we're able to have more scholarships players in needed positions.  And if he can't figure out how to recruit quality players to Houston, one of the top cities in the world to be honest .... he needs to go.

Last year was a step in the right direction with the quality live broadcasting for alumni and supporters who can't make the game or live outside the Houston metro.  But this year, we gotta win, we eventually gotta create more classics (we only have one), and we gotta do better promotions to get the fans out.

If we make it the SWAC Championship game, I just know we gone pack it out with maroon & grey.

RE: 2015 Texas Southern Football Schedule

Last year was a step in the right direction as far as the live broadcast, and for me not living in the Houston area, that was huge. On the field they did improve record wise, but like you said there's no excuse of sanctions to fall back on if your not improving, and everyone and their grandmother knows Texas is one of if not the best state in the country for football talent, and i know that Houston has to have an abundance of talent there. And yes they have to create more excitment about the football program to bring out the fan support, watching some of the home games last year i was suprised by the fan attendance, watching an empty stadium on tv is not a good look, my son had more fans at his high school games, and the only had 2000 students in the school, so i hope they can improve in that area, and i know winning will help that. Also i hope coach asberry understands this is not D11 it is D1 and the expectations are higher when it comes to football.

I don't know why I always add an "h" to his last name.  But yeah, winning is the key ... the ticket prices are reasonable and the band is always good so that's a plus.

But last year the games were painful to watch, very few die hard Tiger Fans are willing to pay to see terrible play and coaching.  Many games we lost we should've won (remember UAPB for homecoming) ... those games are most disappointing.  But that's the past, I'm still waiting to hear who is the new O.C. .... that's a step in the right direction as well. Asberry mentioned he's looking .... I hope it's someone outside the SWAC and new & proven ideas!

RE: 2015 Texas Southern Football Schedule

Yeah hopefully the new OC can bring in a balanced offense, and coach can stay away from the play calling, i do remember last year on his radio show he said that he was involved in the play calling but he was going to let his OC call the plays, but i dont think he did, and yes some of those games were painfull to watch, and i hope he can just pick one QB and go with him, that bs last year at QB was kinda rec ball play if you ask me. You cant run any College offense rotating QBs it just does'nt work.

See that's why I'm so conflicted, I want him gone (losing season) but at the same time I want a SWAC Championship (winning season).  It's been clear to me Asberry needs to respectfully resign and work in a lesser capacity somewhere else .... he's not football intelligent.  But hopefully the assistants make him look better than what he really is.

RE: 2015 Texas Southern Football Schedule

I do not think we have scholarships yet next year I believe we do and the NCAA told us if we could not give out full scholarships we could not play money games to protect our players

RE: 2015 Texas Southern Football Schedule

The penalties handed down in 2012 included 5 years of probation... I believe it included a ban on being able to play D-1 programs for player safety during this down time: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/8482315/texas-southern-tigers-banned-2013-14-postseason-football-basketball

Oh you're right, the postseason ban is off .... but still we should win it all. The scholarship restriction isn't crimpling ....

It can't read it all b/c it's so poorly written and put together but I get the idea .... but I believe it.  We live in a predatory society, if you're not wise you'll get ate up

I'm not sure how it can possibly affect us?

RE: 2015 Texas Southern Football Schedule

Okay... so the NCAA finally is cracking down on these games and NOW... the Homecoming game won't even be a countable game:
http://content.ncaa.org/ncaa-media-services/Definition.pdf
http://www.hbcugameday.com/2015/05/four-hbcus-will-play-in-meaningless.html?m=1

Texas Southern is set to face College of Faith-West Memphis on Oct. 31 and Prairie View's game against the University of Faith so neither of those games will count either.

RE: 2015 Texas Southern Football Schedule

Exactly... should be a 50+ point victory, but still doesn't count in the record books.

Texas Southern Releases 2015 Home Football Game Promotions

HOUSTON- Texas Southern Athletics has announced its home game promotions for the upcoming 2015 Tigers football season which will be played at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Tigers will open the home portion of their schedule on Sept. 5 in the Labor Day Classic versus Prairie View A&M.

Texas Southern will host "First Responders Day" the following week when Texas Southern host Bacone College on Sept. 11. All first responders and military personnel will be allowed complimentary admittance into the game.

The Tigers will host "Five Dollar Thursday" at their next home game on Oct. 1 versus Alabama State. Five dollar tickets will be available to fans and youth.

Texas Southern is slated to play the Southern Jaguars on Oct. 24 for "Homecoming". Texas Southern had initially planned to face the College of Faith for Homecoming (Oct. 31) but TSU administrators decided a change in date and opponent would better help maximize overall attendance and exposure of the event.

On Oct. 31 Texas Southern will host "Senior Citizens Night" when the Tigers face the College of Faith. All senior citizens will be allowed reduced ticket admission ($5) into the game. TSU will host its last home game on Nov. 14 versus Alcorn State as that final regular season home contest has been tabbed "Senior Day".

"We want to continue to enhance our overall fan experience this upcoming season," said TSU Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Charles McClelland. "We're excited to offer an exciting slate of themed home games this year in addition to the Labor Day Classic, Homecoming, and Senior Day. This should be a very exciting season of Tigers football and we encourage all of our fans to purchase seasons tickets when they become available later today."

Season tickets sales for the upcoming football season are available beginning at $105. Fans have the option to purchase season tickets online, by mail, or by visiting the TSU Athletics Department. Please continue to visit www.tsusports.com for the latest breaking news about TSU Tigers Football.

As a TSU and football expert, I see this as a good and bad thing.

It's a good thing because the homecoming game will finally be interesting and the crowd will be there ($$).

It's a bad thing because the festivities of homecoming is usually a distraction for players and key players might not be prepared.  It's not uncommon to see players at the big parties on Friday night chasing the ladies and it shows the next day. Beating SU greatly increases our odds of going to the SWAC Championship and winning the $1 million payout in the Celebration Bowl. Being focus is the key
