BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Texas Southern pitcher Lauren Rodriguez was recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as Softball Pitcher of the Week thanks to her standout efforts during games played from April 18-22.

Rodriguez earned a complete-game victory over Prairie View A&M in her only start of the week. Rodriguez -- the league leader in ERA at 1.81 -- struck out five PV batters as she led the Lady Tigers to a 7-3 win in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader.
The win clinched the series for TSU, and improved Rodriguez' overall record to 7-4 for the season. She also pitched two-thirds of an inning of no-hit relief at Texas last Wednesday. Rodriguez only gave up one extra-base hit in seven and two-thirds innings of pitching this week.
For the season she has struck out a team-high 79 batters over a team-best 85 innings. Opponents are batting .218 against her, which also leads the TSU squad, and she has yet to throw a wild pitch in 2017.
