ALEXANDRIA, La. – Texas Southern Lady Tigers golf got off to another promising start on day one of the 2017 SWAC Women's Golf Championship at the Links on the Bayou.
Alabama State shot a 12-over-par 300 to hold a seven-stroke advantage over Texas Southern (307).
Jackson State sits in third place with a 349 followed by Prairie View A&M (369) and Alcorn State (378).
TSU sophomore Amber Kuykendall shot under par with a 1-under-par 71 to pace the Lady Tigers.
Texas Southern's Jalyn Joseph and Alabama State's Dismary Marquez each shot a 3-over-par 75 to tie for the third best round while Lady Hornets No. 4 player and sophomore Saidah Bodden shot a 78 to round out the top five individuals.
The second and final day of the SWAC Women's Golf Championship will tee off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
