ARLINGTON- The 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference Title will be on the line tomorrow at the SWAC Bowling Championships which is being held at the Bowling International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas.

Texas Southern will look to capture a SWAC Title as they face Alabama State in the Championship Match.

TSU finished conference play with an 18-6 record. Texas Southern will look to the SWAC Bowler of the Year, Denisyha Waller, to lead them to the title. Waller was the only bowler to average over 200 in conference play this season, knocking down 206.9 pins per contest.

The years' championship featured traditional play on Friday March 24 that determined seeding for the double elimination bracket format that took place on Saturday, March 25. March 26 will feature the highly anticipated Championship Match.


Championship Preview

The top two seeds, #1 seed Alabama State and #2 seed Texas Southern will face off in the Championship Match of the 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Bowling Championship on Sunday with a 1 p.m. CT start.

The match can be viewed on tape delay on ESPNU, Sunday April 2 at 9:30 p.m. (CT) and also on Monday, April 3 at 8 p.m. (CT).

Texas Southern defeated Jackson State 4-2, and Alabama State 4-1 to advance to the final and went 2-0 in the winner's bracket.

Alabama State defeated Prairie View 4-3 in its first match of the day. The Hornets would then face off against the Tigers, falling 4-1 to move to the loser's bracket.

The Hornets would defeat Southern 4-1 to advance to the championship match.

The Tigers have won the SWAC bowling championship four times, with the last coming in 2006. The Hornets will be seeking the first championship in program history.

The All-Tournament team was also announced after games one and two. Denisyha Waller (Texas Southern), Haley Young (Alabama State), Violet Kirk (Jackson State), Kamari Jackson (Jackson State) and Laurencia Harmon (Grambling State) all received All-Tournament Team honors.
