Texas Southern Basketball Thread

Wow, may the odds be in our favor lol .... this has to be one of the hardest pre-conference schedules.  Now this could go two ways.  We can either be too beat up by conference play and just totally fall flat or we can breeze through it b/c we've been pushed to a higher dimension of play.  What cha think?

I agree... One of the toughest schedules I can recall us playing.

It depends on the person, but it's the coaches (all of them) job to make sure these kids keep their head up no matter what. I strongly believe better competition yields greater performance as you're used to the "bigger, better, & faster" teams. We just can't underestimate our own conference and get too big headed and lose in-conference. At all.

Dominate, dominate, dominate. 15+ point wins all through conference play and we turn heads. Several 100+ point games at H&PE + dunks + opposing teams fouling out = a packed H&PE Arena. I expect a lot, I know.

I agree, I can't wait to the final roster is revealed. I think it will be late August/early Sept.

And we're two alumnus who are thriving intellectually and career wise .... we want nothing but the best for things we're affiliated with.  But trust me we're not that bad .... I've seen co-workers (with their desk looking like their campus bookstore threw up all over it) come to work depressed b/c their alma mater didn't win rivalry or other big games.   See that's never happened to me, I might be temporarily a little teed off at times but symptoms of depression ... no sir lol.  I'm able to put things in perspective but still have high expectations.

Never count out a late addition like we got with DD Scarver last year. We'll know more info as the season draws near.

I get mad after a loss personally... for the rest of the day. I think @[tsuball10] is the same way lol but just like you I know there are more games left to be played and it's on to the next one

I hear ya but some of my co-workers "bad mood" extends past just a day, it's usually for a few days.  They get themselves overly worked up, the worst are the Aggies Alumni (not all but most I work with so I'm clear) I would say. Being an Aggie is like a religion to them circled around their god "A&M" ... just strange and ridiculous.

Being passionate for your favorite team make sports fun and more interesting, but some definitely take it too far. For example, I've seen fans on Youtube (college and pro) fight each other and things, they let their passion disable their common sense and courtesies.

Mike Davis at it again, commits Chris Thomas, Deverell Biggs, bolsters Texas Southern http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2014/08/22/mike-davis-dismissed-stars-chris-thomas-deverell-biggs/13534241/

Some coaches have a niche when it comes to recruiting. John Calipari's mastered reeling in one-and-done freshmen at Kentucky. Fred Hoiberg's the king of hauling in ready-to-breakout eligible transfers.

At Texas Southern, coach Mike Davis has made the Houston campus a destination for second-chance players.

Mike Davis re-loads Texas Southern with a Big Ten transfer and former five-star prospect
Mike Davis has done a nice job competing in the SWAC at Texas Southern by taking on transfers that many other coaches wouldn’t think twice about.

The former Indiana coach might not be able to recruit high-level athletes and talented players out of high school to the low-major program, but he’s made a big mark taking risks on certain players.

Has he or anyone reached out to the athletics department about him?

Texas Southern University is interested in signing junior shooting guard Zach Lofton, the former Columbia Heights star who recently was dismissed by Gophers coach Richard Pitino.
