For the first time in three years, TSU will not play in the NCAA Tournament. Now its sights are set on reaching the National Invitation Tournament championship game in New York.
Southern's 81-73 win ousted TSU from the SWAC tournament semifinals Friday. Losing to the eventual tournament champion ended hopes of a third consecutive NCAA Tournament berth for the Tigers, who were a No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after winning a third SWAC regular-season title in four years.
