Texas Southern University forward Chris Thomas, center, and his teammates will try for a repeat victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday.

Every game would be a blowout win if Texas Southern head coach Mike Davis had his way.

But surviving a few close games at Alabama State and Alabama A&M could prove beneficial down the road for TSU.

That happened last week in a two-game trip through Alabama. TSU defeated Alabama State (75-72) and Alabama A&M (71-66) by a combined eight points.

The Tigers (10-11, 9-0) won six of their first seven SWAC game by at least 15 points.

"I thought both teams played really well," TSU head coach Mike Davis said. "Alabama State had a chance to win late. Alabama A&M, they led I think with a minute and a half to go in the game. We're both well-coached teams, both competitive teams. We did a good job of finishing both games."
