Fred Sturdivant earns SWAC Player of the Week honors

BIRMINGHAM – Texas Southern senior Fred Sturdivant has been named SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The 6-7 forward was a force in the Tigers’ two wins over the weekend.

Sturdivant averaged 18 points and 15.5 rebounds for the weekend. He also had four steals and a league-high nine blocked shots.

The Chattanooga native was the picture of consistency, scoring double-doubles in both games. He had 18 points and 14 rebounds in TSU’s 75-69 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a battle of conference front runners. Then, Sturdivant scored another 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a 73-57 win over Mississippi Valley State. In addition, he had eight of his nine blocks against MVSU.
