For the second time in three years, the Texas Southern University women's golf team received a public recognition award from the NCAA after achieving a perfect score (1,000) for its multi-year APR. As a whole, 12 of TSU's 14 sports (indoor/outdoor track & field is combined in APR) scored 950 or higher while no sports will be subject to penalties for the 10th consecutive year in the latest NCAA APR report released Tuesday.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.

As a department, Texas Southern averaged a 965. The women's soccer team had a banner year as they posted its highest single year APR score in program history with a 981 and its highest multi-year APR score of 972. The softball program tied for its highest multi-year rate in program history with a 978 while the women's bowling program posted a 992 for the third straight year.

The women's golf team recorded the highest multi-year APR in the SWAC (1,000) amongst its respective programs while the women's basketball team also tied in its category for the highest multi-year rate in the SWAC (974).

"I want to commend our compliance department, academic staff, coaches and student-athletes for their tireless efforts in our quest to exceed the APR standards set forth by the NCAA," said Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Kevin Granger. "This is a total team effort from our Board of Regents, President's office, faculty and staff to ensure our student-athletes have the ability to receive quality academic support while competing in their respective sports simultaneously. We will continue to raise the bar academically and athletically at Texas Southern University."

As part of the APR, the NCAA established a public recognition program for the top-performing teams in each sport based on their most recent multi-year APR. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent, plus ties, in each sport. This marks the second time in program history the women's golf program has achieved this honor as they also accomplished the feat in 2016-17.

While TSU continues its success on the APR front, the department continues to make major strides with its Graduation Success Rate (GSR) as 10 of the department's 16 teams are projected to have a 2020 GSR of 83 percent or greater.
