PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The TSU volleyball team dropped its season opener by a 3-1 margin to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers won the opening set 25-20 as they used an 11-1 run to take control early as Janiya Chapman led the way with three kills during the run. Ahead 19-14, UAPB took advantage of six TSU errors to tie the contest at 22-all but a UAPB service error moved the lead back into TSU's corner. A service error allowed UAPB to tie the contest at 23-all but TSU persevered and closed out the set as they forced UAPB to commit a pair of errors for the 25-23 win.

The second set belonged to UAPB as they stormed out to an early 11-2 lead. TSU continued to fight back and narrowed the gap to 24-20 late in the set but a late error by TSU allowed UAPB to close out the set for the 1-1 tie.

Set three was back-and-forth early on as UAPB tried to pull away only to see TSU battle back and draw to within two points on several occasions. With TSU down 10-8, UAPB went on a 10-3 run to create separation but TSU's Kyira Porch recorded a pair of service aces to draw TSU to within 20-14. UAPB's Ambria Schneringer responded with a pair of kills after the brief TSU run which sent the momentum back to the Golden Lions for a 25-17 win.

Set four saw the Lady Tigers jump out to an 11-9 lead but UAPB reeled off six straight points to reclaim a 15-11 margin. TSU would draw to within 15-12 but that would be the closest they would get the remainder of the set as UAPB closed out the match with a 25-17 decision.

Chapman led TSU with nine kills followed by eight from Thalia Cordero-Moreno. Porch topped TSU with 21 digs and had seven assists while Aeris Ramsey added 15 digs and 11 assists. Alyssa Chuidian had 14 assists and 10 digs.

TSU is back in action Monday evening at Grambling State for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
