Grambling State

BATON ROUGE, La.- This past weekend the Texas Southern Lady Tigers volleyball team competed in the SWAC Round-Up. The Lady Tigers' first match was against Mississippi Valley State as they won the first three sets of the match with the scores 22-25, 20-25 and 25-15.

Senior middle blocker Kirby Anderson led the team with 8 kills and tied with fellow senior outside hitter Eboni Mitchell with 4 blocks.

The Lady Tigers next match against Jackson State was hard fought, but ended with a tough loss losing in four sets. After being down for the first two sets that were close in score, the Lady Tigers fought and won the third set with a score of 25-21.

TSU dropped the last set as Anderson led the team in kills with 13 while tallying seven blocks. Junior setter Breyanna York led the team in assists with 34 and freshman libero Alexis Praytor led the team in digs against Jackson State.

The first game on Saturday was a win for Texas Southern as the ended up winning a four game set, 25-23, 25-22, 21-25 and 26-24. Outside hitter Alexis Austin led the team in kills in the victory over Alcorn State.

TSU came up short in a five set battle against the Alabama State Hornets. After losing the first set 18-25, the Lady Tigers won two straight sets, 25-16 and 25-17.
Despite losing the last two sets of the game, freshman outside hitter Jada Hall had an impressive 12 kills against the Hornets defense. Freshman middle blocker April Brown provided four blocks for the Lady Tigers defense against Alabama State.

Texas Southern suffered a tough loss against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs losing in a close three sets to close put round-up play. TSU's Praytor stepped up with 11 digs and junior outside hitter Alexis Austin led the team in kills, finishing the game with 12.

Texas Southern will host Grambling State on Sunday, September 30 at 4:00 p.m. in the HPE Arena as they continue in conference play.
