The Texas Southern men's track team opened the 2020 indoor season with a solid performance at the FasTrak Collegiate Meet Saturday at Yeoman Fieldhouse.

After a historic cross country season which saw the Tigers win the SWAC Championship, TSU carried the success over to the distance events. TSU dominated the mile as Jose Gonzalez (4:31.36) won the event followed by Dan Lerma (4:32.05). Brian Martinez placed fourth in a time of 4:32.07 while Cristian Sanchez finished fifth (4:34.47). Efrain Lira placed second in the 3,000 (9:03.46) followed by Filmon Beyene (3rd/9:03.46) and Luis Delreal (4th/9:10.61).

Kenneth White ran a SWAC-best 49.18 in the 400 as he was the top collegiate finisher. Teammate Eric Prier was the third-highest collegiate finisher with a time of 50.04. The freshman duo of Cameron Houston and Brandon Washington placed 1-2 in the 800 as Houston ran a 1:58.53 while Washington clocked 1:59.25. Houston's time currently ranks third in the SWAC.

In the 60 meters, Jordee Archer Harvey ran the fastest time in the SWAC so far this season with a 6.85 in the preliminary round. TSU's "A" team won the mile relay as they ran a 3:19.26 for the second-best time in the SWAC.

In the field events, Christian Lewis and Chadrick Williams finished 2-3 in the triple jump as Lewis jumped 14.47 meters (47-5.75) while Williams recorded a mark of 13.97 meters (45-10). Both marks rank 1-2 in the SWAC at this point of the year.

The Tigers are back in action this weekend at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M. The meet begins on Friday and concludes Saturday.
