PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Tigers of Texas Southern University finished a memorable weekend sweep of Prairie View A&M after defeating the host Panthers 21-1 in Sunday's finale.
Gaudencio Lucca and Trey LeBlanc knocked in four RBIs apiece and led five TSU players recording at least three hits Sunday as the Tigers scored 21 unanswered runs after ceding the game's first score to the Panthers in the bottom of the first inning.
The Tigers (19-22) improved to 13-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference divisional play. TSU leads second-place Grambling in the lost column by two full games. The Tigers host Grambling to conclude the regular season the first weekend of May.
Peyton Schneider picked up his first win in a TSU uniform Sunday, as he tossed six complete innings and struck out three batters while scattering five hits. Schneider did not allow a Prairie View A&M runner past second base after the first inning.
Chris Suarez pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Tigers in a game that was shortened due to the 10-run rule. Suarez, one of TSU's top relief pitchers this season, did not have an opportunity to enter a game in a pressure situation this weekend, as the Tigers outscored Prairie View 62-12 over the three-game series.
The weekend sweep at Prairie View also gave the Tigers a season sweep of the Panthers (9-27, 5-13 SWAC West), as TSU also swept the teams' series in Houston last month.
Jose Camacho went 4-for-6 at the plate and scored four runs for the Tigers, while Christian Sanchez and Kamren Dukes knocked three hits and scored three runs apiece for TSU. Dukes' 3-for-7 day – which included three RBIs – stretched his hitting streak to 26 games.
Ryan Diaz knocked home two runs for the Tigers, and Ricky Urbano collected two hits in the game.
The Tigers travel to New Orleans for their next game Tuesday, when they visit Tulane. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
