• Texas Southern returns to action Saturday evening as they'll host Grambling State in its home SWAC opener at 7:30 p.m.
• The Tigers returned to the court Monday night for the first time 22 days as they fell to Prairie View A&M in both team's SWAC opener. TSU will only play one game this weekend as Monday's contest versus Jackson State has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the JSU program.

• This marks the third year for TSU head coach Johnny Jones. Jones went 24-14 in his inaugural year as head coach with three Power 5 conference wins. TSU fell in the finals of the 2019 SWAC Tournament and competed in the CIT. TSU advanced to the semifinals of the CIT in 2019. Last season, the Tigers made it back to the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament after a third-place regular season finish but saw the season end abruptly due to COVID-19.

• Jones is 7-1 lifetime against Grambling State and 4-1 at TSU. The average margin of victory is 2.5 points.

• Jones is 79-72 all-time in the month of January and 10-5 at TSU.

• Grambling State is 2-1 in SWAC play and 4-6 overall. Led by coach Donte' Jackson, GSU is led by Cameron Christon's 13.9 points per game while Cameron Woodall follows with 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds. Terreon Randolph is their top rebounder with 5.3 boards per contest.
• Since 2010, GSU is 4-19 against TSU but has won three of the past seven games as head coach Donte' Jackson has all the wins. History says the game will be close as three of the past seven games have been decided by one point.

• Three Tigers average double figures as guard Michael Weathers averages 14.8 points, 4.3rebounds and 2.5 steals. Forward John Walker III averages 13.6 points and 5.5 rebounds while Galen Alexander averages 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds.

• TSU was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the 2020-21 SWAC title in the annual preseason poll with nine lettermen returning and three starters. The Tigers also had a trio of student-athletes earn preseason honors as Yahuza Rasas and Justin Hopkins were named to the first team while Chris Baldwin received second team honors. Experience won't be an issue as four of the five newcomers are NCAA Division I transfers who sat out last season due to NCAA rules.

• TSU takes the term "home, sweet home" to heart as the Tigers are 104-23 inside the H&PE Arena since 2008. TSU has won nine-plus games at home every year since the 2010-11 season.
