• Texas Southern will celebrate senior night on Monday against Alabama State before a live audience as ESPNU will broadcast the contest. TSU is in a busy stretch as this is the second of five games over a 10-day stretch.
• This marks the second year for TSU head coach Johnny Jones. Jones went 24-14 in his inaugural year as head coach with three Power 5 conference wins. TSU fell in the finals of the 2019 SWAC Tournament and competed in the CIT. TSU advanced to the semifinals of the CIT last season.
• Monday's game looms large for TSU as they currently hold sole possession of second place but only by one game. The Tigers need to keep winning in order to remain in the top four to host a first round SWAC Tournament contest on Tuesday, March 10.
• Head coach Johnny Jones is 38-30 all-time in the month of March and 8-2 at TSU.
• Jones is 3-1 lifetime against Alabama State as his first loss to them was in February.
• Alabama State is in seventh place and if TSU wins out, this could be a potential opening round match-up on March 10. ASU is guided by SWAC veteran Lewis Jackson in his 15th year. Tobi Ewuosho leads the team with 12.9 points and 6 rebounds per game.
• TSU has dominated the series against Alabama State recently as the Tigers have won 18 of the past 20 match-ups. TSU's loss at ASU on Feb. 3 ended a 15-game winning streak over the Hornets which dated back to Feb. 3, 2014. ASU has not swept TSU in the regular season since the 2009-10 campaign.
• Yahuza Rasas has nine double-doubles on the season for the Tigers and averages 9.2 rebounds in SWAC play. TSU's Eden Ewing is averaging 11.1 points and 5.0 rebounds since the start of SWAC play.
• TSU takes the term "home, sweet home" to heart as the Tigers are 101-23 inside the H&PE Arena since 2008. TSU has won nine-plus games at home every year since the 2010-11 season as they're 9-1 this season.
• TSU was picked 2nd in the SWAC preseason poll as senior forward Eden Ewing was named to the All-SWAC Preseason First Team. Ewing was granted a sixth year of eligibility in the summer.
