Tigers Football set to open training camp Aug. 3
HOUSTON- Texas Southern University third-year head football coach Michael Haywood and his staff are projected to welcome 97 student-athletes to campus for preseason training camp on Thursday.

The players will report mid-day on Thursday, August 2 with student-athletes moving into their dorm rooms followed by team meetings with TSU Academic, Compliance, Sports Medicine, and Equipment staffs' scheduled for later that evening.
On Friday TSU Football will begin the day with team meetings in the early afternoon. The Tigers will hit the field for their first practice of training camp on Friday at 8:00 p.m. at Alexander Durley Stadium.

Texas Southern returns several key contributors from last season as they enter the 2018 campaign looking to claim their first winning season since 2000. This season the Tigers offense will be under the direction of Offensive Coordinator Morris Watts. Watts and staff will look to improve a TSU offensive unit that ranked 7th in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in points per game (16.5 ppg) and 8th in total offense (262.9 ypg).

Defensively Texas Southern will once again be led by Defensive Coordinator Tom Anthony. Last season TSU ranked 8th in scoring defense (29.3 ppg) and 8th in total defense (403.7 ypg). The Tigers will undoubtedly look to improve significantly on both sides of the ball with the addition of several high caliber signees and Division I FBS transfers. The TSU Football coaching staff believes they have all the tools needed for a successful season.

All Texas Southern preseason camp practices are open to the media, while all practices are closed to general spectators. TSU Football will host its final scrimmage of preseason camp on Wednesday, August 22, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Texas Southern will conclude camp practices on Friday, August 24.

TSU will officially kickoff the 2018 season on Saturday, September 1 at BBVA Compass Stadium against UT-Permian Basin. Kickoff has been slated for 7:00 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on AT&T SportsNet Southwest with Tigers play-by-play TV analyst Butch Alsandor calling all the action. Fans who can't watch the TV broadcast will also have the ability to listen to the game live on 90.9 KTSU FM with radio play-by-play voice Lary "The Chattabox" Hale providing in game commentary along with color commentator Devan Wade.
