• Texas Southern is back on the bus after a three-game homestand as the Tigers begin a two-game swing at Jackson State Saturday evening inside the Williams AAC at 5 p.m.
• This marks the second year for TSU head coach Johnny Jones. Jones went 24-14 in his inaugural year as head coach with three Power 5 conference wins. TSU fell in the finals of the 2019 SWAC Tournament and competed in the CIT. TSU advanced to the semifinals of the CIT last season.

• TSU has to replace three key starters from last year's squad but has several returnees who had made starts last year that will have to step up. Point guard Tyrik Armstong, shooting guard John Jones and forward Eden Ewing will be counted on to lead the charge as Armstrong and Jones are top returning scorers while Ewing is the top returning rebounder.

• Head coach Johnny Jones is 75-71 all-time in the month of January and 6-4 at TSU.

• Jones is 7-0 lifetime against Jackson State as he has faced JSU as head coach at Memphis, North Texas and TSU. He's 2-0 against JSU as TSU's head coach.

• Over the course of his career, TSU's Johnny Jones is 33-7 lifetime against teams from the SWAC.

• Jackson State was picked fifth in the SWAC's preseason poll after finishing 13-19 (10-8) in 2018-19. Tristian Jarret leads JSU and the SWAC with 18.5 points per game. Jayveous McKinnis is the SWAC's top rebounder with 8.9 rebounds per game. JSU starter Cainan McClelland spent three years at TSU before transferring to JSU this offseason. His brother, Ashton, is on TSU's roster.

• Since 2007, TSU is 16-11 against JSU and has won eight of the past 10 dating back to 2015. The Tigers are 6-4 when playing in Jackson since 2010.

• TSU takes the term "home, sweet home" to heart as the Tigers are 97-23 inside the H&PE Arena since 2008. TSU has won nine-plus games at home every year since the 2010-11 season.

• TSU was picked second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference preseason poll as senior forward Eden Ewing was named to the All-SWAC Preseason First Team. Ewing was granted a sixth year of eligibility in the summer.
