TSUSports.com: Tiger men take sixth place at the SWAC championships

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Tigers of Texas Southern University finished in sixth place at the annual Southwestern Athletic Conference track and field meet this past weekend.

Luis Delreal's first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was the highest mark for a TSU athlete at the meet. Delreal finished the race with a time of 9 minutes, 57.01 seconds.

As a team, Texas Southern finished with 65 points, narrowly edging out seventh-place Grambling State, which finished with 63 points. Southern finished in fifth place with 72 points, while Alabama State's 176.5 points was the top score for the weekend.

The Tigers came away with several top-five finishes, with Chris Allen and Mykele Young-Sanders medaling in one event apiece. Allen took third place in the shot put with a throw of 14.67 meters.

Meanwhile, Young-Sanders took third place in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing the race with a time of 52.02 seconds. He also took fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.65 seconds, and was part of the 4-by-400-meter relay team that took fourth place. The team was comprised of Young-Sanders, Kenneth White, Bronshaye Bolden and Jacob Price.

TSU's 4-by-100-meter relay team of Jaylon Garrett, White (pictured), Darian Thompson, and Roman Turner also took fourth place. The quartet finished their race with a time of 40.74 seconds.

Turner also recorded a top-five finish in the individual 100-meter dash. He finished in fifth place with a time of 10.44 seconds.

In the 1,500-meter run, Hillary Maiyo finished fourth in the finals with a time of 4:06.66. He had finished with the top time in the preliminaries with a time of 4:08.69.

The decathlon saw TSU's Bryan Clarke finish in fifth place overall. He finished in first in the event's 1,500-meter run (5:15.89) and in the 400-meter dash (50.74 seconds). He also took second place in the decathlon's shot put event with a throw of 11.28 meters.
