The Texas Southern University Department of Athletics continues to excel academically as 15-of-16 teams finished the 2020 spring semester with a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average (GPA).

Collectively, the department recorded a 3.19 GPA for the spring semester. The Tiger baseball team led all men's sports with a 3.57 GPA while the soccer team topped the women's ledger with a GPA of 3.57.

Forty-three (43) student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA which earned them the department's Academic Champion honor. A total of 101 student-athletes recorded GPA's between 3.5-3.99 to earn Athletic Director's List honors while 82 student-athletes posted GPAs between 3.0-3.49 which placed them on the Tiger Honor Roll.

Thirty-four (34) student-athletes/support staff members recently graduated this past spring and were honored in early May during the department's inaugural Student-Athlete Virtual Graduation & Sash Ceremony. A few weeks later, the department of athletics received another dose of positive academic news as the women's golf team received a public recognition award from the NCAA after achieving a perfect score (1,000) for its multi-year Academic Progress Rate. As a whole, 12 of TSU's 14 sports (indoor/outdoor track & field is combined in APR) scored 950 or higher while no sports will be subject to penalties for the 10th consecutive year in the latest NCAA APR report. The department is also projected to have 10 teams post a 2020 Graduation Success Rate score of 83 percent or higher.
