BEAUMONT, Texas - The TSU softball team swept a pair of games from Lamar on Saturday afternoon at the LU Softball Complex.

TSU 6, LAMAR 1

Jazmine Gendorf threw a four-hitter and Texas Southern scored a trio of runs in the third and fifth innings as they defeated Lamar 6-1 in the opener.

Lamar went up 1-0 on a two-out RBI in the second but TSU quickly answered with a three-run third despite having two outs. Zariah Robins recorded a bunt single and moved Haley Castro over to second. Daryn Haslam drew a walk and Mila Rodriguez's single to shortstop drove in both Robins and Castro for a 2-1 lead. Tevanae Tate drove in TSU's third run for a 3-1 margin.

The Tigers added to their lead in the fifth as Crimson Davis hit a leadoff single and a Lamar throwing error allowed Robins to reach base while Davis moved over to third. Haslam upped the score to 4-1 via a single which eventually led to Tate's second RBI and a 5-1 lead. Paige Jackson closed out the scoring with a sac fly for a 6-1 advantage.

Gendorf went the distance as she allowed only four hits and a run scored. Robins, Tate and Rodriguez all had two hits as Rodriguez and Tate drove in two RBI.

TSU 5, LAMAR 3

TSU combined for four runs in the fifth and sixth frames as they won game two 5-3.

Zariah Robins drove in the game's first run in the second for an early 1-0 lead but Lamar answered in the third with an RBI to knot the contest at 1-all. The Lady Tigers stepped up their game offensively with a pair of runs in the fifth after RBIs from Lauryn Banks and Tevanae Tate. Daryn Haslam's two-RBI single in the sixth gave TSU some much-needed insurance as Lamar tacked on two runs in the seventh.

Robins finished 3-for-4 with an RBI while Crimson Davis, Tate and Haley Castro all had two hits.

Chelsea Baxter improved to 2-2 on the mound with three strikeouts.

TSU is back in action on March 6 at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
