BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar pulled away from the Tigers with three second-half goals Friday night at the LU Soccer Complex.
Lamar would score the only goal in the half in the 19th minute by Sophia Manibo. TSU goalie Salma Ghazal and Tiger defense shook off the early setback and held LU scoreless partly due to Ghazal's six saves. Taylor Stokes provided TSU's lone opportunity at scoring in the half with a shot on goal attempt in the 35th minute.
LU added its second goal in the 65th minute and tacked on two additional goals in a span of 13 minutes to pull away. Despite the goals, Ghazal put forth a valiant effort in the goal as she recorded 11 saves throughout the half.
The team is back in action Wednesday night at Rice University for a 7 p.m. kick.
