LORMAN, Miss. – Despite a career-night from freshman Ja'Mare Redus and a season-high in points by Eden Ewing, Alcorn pulled away midway in the first half and held TSU off the remainder of the game for a 90-75 decision Saturday evening.

TSU would lead over the first 8:40 but ASU tied the game at 14-all and took a 16-14 lead with 10:58 left before the Tigers tied it again at 16-all after an Ewing layup. ASU would move ahead once again but Ewing would drain a three-pointer to remain tied at 21-all with 9:12 remaining.

Alcorn State would drain consecutive three-pointers to regain and push its lead to 27-21 but a layup by Chris Baldwin would end the run to draw within 27-23 at the 7:07 mark. A TSU turnover would lead to an ASU three-pointer and a 30-23 deficit but TSU would remain close as layups by Ewing and Justin Hopkins drew TSU within five points over the next minute-and-a-half. However, TSU went scoreless over the next two minutes and ASU took advantage as they led by double digits late in the half but a Redus jumper with one second left sent TSU into the locker room down 45-36.

The Braves would claim their largest margin of the game at 54-41 nearly three minutes into the second half but TSU went on a 7-0 run to close within 54-48 over the next 1:14. ASU responded with a 7-0 run of its own to move ahead 61-48. TSU would step its game up as Redus scored 10 points over the next 7:01 as they outscored ASU 20-11 to narrow the gap to 72-68 with 7:19 remaining.

ASU's Troymain Crosby hit consecutive jumpers to move them ahead by eight and TSU would only make two field goals the rest of the way as ASU closed out the game on an 14-7 surge to seal the win.

Redus scored 20 with five rebounds while Ewing scored 24 with seven boards and a pair of blocks.

TSU, which enters as the third seed, opens the 2020 Cricket Wireless SWAC Tournament Tuesday night versus No. 6 Grambling State at 7:30 p.m. inside the H&PE Arena.
