HOUSTON - The Texas Southern Tigers competed in The Red Raider Invitational. The meet was hosted by Texas Tech University this past Friday in Lubbock, Texas at the Sports Performance Center.

Texas Southern performed well in their track events, placing in the top 10 in four events. Junior Jacob Price came in second in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.22, and Sophomore Marcus Caldwell finished eighth with a time of 1:58.73. Sophomore Maliek Kendall competed well in the 60m hurdles, placing fifth with a time of 8.12.

The Tigers' 4x400m relay, made up of Junior Mykele Young Sanders, Senior Darius Birden, Junior Bronshaye Bolden, and Freshman Kenneth White, team finished sixth with a time of 3:19.88. The Tigers also showcased their long distance abilities in the 3000m run placing fifth by Sophomore Jorge Marinez with a time of 9:03.31 and ninth by Senior David Guzman with a time of 9:14.44.

TSU performed well in the field events on Friday, placing sixth in both the high jump by Freshman Taylor Levin for a distance of 1.96m and triple jump by Senior Tevin Kimble for a distance of 13.66m. Shot put participant Senior Chris Allen finished in 10th place for a distance of 14.10m. Senior Terrell Perry placed eighth in the weight throw for a distance of 16.40m.

The Tigers will compete again next weekend, where they will compete at LSU on Friday the 26th and the University of Houston on Saturday the 27th.
