Lady Tigers run in the McNeese Cowboy Cross Country Stampede
LAKE CHARLES, La.- Texas Southern Women's Cross Country visited Lake Charles to run in the McNeese Cowboy Cross Country Stampede this weekend.

The Lady Tigers placed 14th in the Women's 5K College division. The meet was hosted by McNeese State University at the Enos Darbonne Multisports Complex. Awards were given to the top two teams and 10 individuals in each division.

The Lady Tigers opened the meet running in the first race of the day. The hosting team placed second, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took home first place. Although weather conditions were not what was expected and this was the first time the Lady Tigers ever competed in a 5K race, Head Coach Pauline Banks, was still curious to see how her team would perform,

"It was our first 5K and the weather wasn't the best", said Coach Banks. "But I was glad we had the opportunity to run it and see how we faired."

Mariah Stewart was the only Lady Tiger to place in the top 50 with a time of 20 minutes and 42 seconds. "Mariah Stewart is just one of those athletes you wish you had more of", praised Coach Banks. "She's tough and trying to get to where she was two years ago."

Last season, Stewart was unable to finish the season due to a hip injury endured during the cross country season. "She's taking one meet at a time and improving on her time", said Coach Banks.

The Lady Tigers now head home to get ready for their fourth meet of the season.

Texas Southern's Women's cross country is set to participate at Texas A&M University in College Station this Thursday, October 4th.
