HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University snapped a three-game losing streak Wednesday with an emphatic 91-57 win over Alcorn State.

At TSU's H&PE Arena, junior guard Joyce Kennerson scored a game-high 32 points and handed out a career-best nine assists to lead the Lady Tigers (6-7), who improved to 1-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

Kaitlyn Palmer scored 19 points for the Lady Tigers while going 5-of-8 from 3-point range. She also handed out five four assists. Breasia McElrath finished a point shy of her second double-double this season, scoring eight points and pulling in 10 rebounds.

Tia Sanders scored 15 points to lead Alcorn State (5-8, 1-1 SWAC). The SWAC's leading 3-point shooter ahead of Kennerson and Palmer, Sanders was limited 4-of-16 shooting from the field, and 3-of-12 from behind the arc.

On the other side of the court, the Lady Tigers were seemingly scoring at will, as they shot at least 50 percent from the field in three of the game's four quarters. TSU shot 73.3 percent (11 of 15) from the floor in the first quarter as the Lady Tigers built a 23-11 lead; Texas Southern shot 72.7 percent (8 of 11) from the floor in the third quarter.

Camille Mills and Catherine Okwilagwe scored nine points apiece for the Lady Tigers. Okwilagwe came off the bench and shot 4-of-5 from the floor, while Mills – the team's top rebounder and one of the SWAC's top rebounding guards – pulled in eight rebounds.

Kennerson surpassed reached and surpassed 1,200 career points with a pair of free throws in the final minute of the third quarter that gave TSU a 67-42 lead. The Lady Tigers led 67-45 going into the fourth quarter.

The 91 points scored by TSU were the most scored by the Lady Tigers in more than three years. The last time TSU topped 90 points was Dec. 17, 2014, when they won 92-80 at Houston Baptist.

TSU's win was the 11th consecutive victory for the Lady Tigers over Alcorn State dating back to the 2012-13 season.

The Lady Tigers return to action Saturday when they host in-state Prairie View A&M. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.; the game will be aired on AT&T SportsNet Southwest.
