HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Lady Tigers Indoor Track and Field team competed over this past weekend at the Purple Tiger Invitational on Friday, January 5th. The meet was hosted by LSU at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
The Lady Tigers' Head Coach Pauline Banks was pleased with her 4x400M team placing third, and beating out SWAC rivals Alcorn State and Grambling State.

"We had some bright spots in Mariah Stewart coming off an injury and running well finishing 2nd in the 800 meter", said Banks. "We're focusing on taking each meet one at a time while improving on our times and marks in each event."

Banks also was thrilled with how Alexis Gray performed, placing first in the 200M dash and seventh in the 60M dash overall.

"Alexis did a great job, she had set some goals for herself at this meet and I can say, she did accomplish them in the first meet", said Banks. "Now, she's focusing on continuing to getter better as the season progresses."

For her outstanding performances Gray has been named Women's Track Athlete of the Week by the Southwestern Athletic Conference and currently has the best mark of any athlete in the 200M dash.
