HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Lady Tigers dropped a home contest against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders by a score of 4-1 on a sweltering day at Alexander Durley Stadium.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi opened the scoring at the 38-minute mark of the first half when Mariah Ramon capitalized on a deflection and sent a shot to the back of the net at point blank range. A short time later Megan Dodd got behind the Lady Tigers defense to increase the lead to 2-0 for the Islanders.

TSU Midfielder Natalie Rodriguez got the homestanding Lady Tigers on the board at the 8 minute mark as she found the back of the net on a deflected shot on goal firing the ball past the Islander goalie.

"Natalie did a really good job working hard in the midfield today," said TSU head coach Kathryn Balogun. "She had great energy off the bench today, and has done a really good job for us."

Abby Deakin would push the score via a penalty kick to 3-1 for the Islanders. Reaghan Lang would close out the scoring for the Islanders finding the back of the net with less than five minutes left in the contest.

"Today was very frustrating," said Balogun. "They capitalized and we couldn't finish on our touches and the score line ends the way it does and that's frustrating. For as hard as the girls have put in the work that's very frustrating for us as a team."

The Lady Tigers will get an opportunity to redeem themselves as they return to the pitch on Sunday, September 23rd when they host their conference opener against the Howard Bison.
