HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University dropped their first two games at the University of Houston's Red & White Showcase on Friday.

TSU (1-9) fell 7-0 to DePaul in the opening game of the day; the Lady Tigers were defeated by Texas State 7-3 in the second game.

In the game against Texas State (8-7), the Lady Tigers tied the game twice, only to see the Bobcats reclaim the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Ashlin Moreno knocked an RBI single – one of her two hits in the game – to score A'Leecia Bell to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning.

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning, freshman Ashlyn Taylor knocked a pinch-hit double to score Bell and Zariah Robins. It was Taylor's first collegiate hit.

Texas State responded with four runs in the bottom half of the sixth, three of them coming on Tara Oltmann's home run to centerfield.

Tyra Williams took the loss in relief against the Bobcats. Destiny Ricks (pictured) started and pitched four solid innings, striking out three while allowing two earned runs.

In the morning game against DePaul, the Lady Tigers were only the latest team to fall to the Blue Demons (14-1). Lauryn Banks knocked two hits for TSU in the game.

Bailey Daniels threw two shutout innings against DePaul and tossed another two-thirds innings of scoreless softball against Texas State.

The Lady Tigers return to action Saturday at 9 a.m. when they face Wichita State. They will also play at 7 p.m. against the host Cougars.
