• Texas Southern returns to action on Saturday as they'll travel to Southern for a 2 p.m. showdown at A.W. Mumord Stadium.
• Saturday's contest will feature live audio on KTSU 90.9 FM and will be shown live on SWACTV.
• Texas Southern is playing in Baton Rouge for only the second time since 2016. The series shifted to Dallas/Arlington, Texas from 2018-22 before returning to Baton Rouge in 2023. The 2021 spring contest was played in Houston.

• TSU is on a two-game losing streak and shifts its fo- cus to closing the season with a winning record for the first time since 2000. TSU will need to win its final two games in order to do so.
• Southern University has only won one contest this season and changed coaches recently as they're led by former Alcorn State head coach Fred McNair. The Jaguars have increased their scoring output recently under McNair but have struggled defensively allowing 39.3 points per game.
• Southern is last in both scoring offense (16.5) and defense (37.1) and 11th in total offense (296.5) and 10th in defense (428.4). Freshman Trey Holley has been the team's bright spot with 808 total yards and seven touchdowns. Reigning SWAC Defensive Player of the Year Ckelby Givens leads the team with 15.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks.
• The kick return game has been a bright spot for TSU as they rank first in the SWAC with 28.2 yards per re- turn. Chaunzavia Lewis ranks third in the SWAC with 30.4 yards per kick return while Kerien Charlo ranks fifth in the SWAC with 28.8 yards per return.
• TSU has three players (Isaiah Bogerty, Matthew Cooks and Charles George) rank amongst the top 11 in the SWAC in tackles per game. Bogerty ranks second in the league with 66 (8.3) total followed by Cooks with 63 (7.0) and George with 56 (6.2).
• TSU had three players earn preseason All-SWAC Second Team honors in Trent Leary (WR), Damarcus Thompson (DE) and Jeremy Ramirez (P).
• Running back Athean Renfro is the SWAC's leading rusher with 807 yards (80.8 ypg). He needs 193 yards to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark as it would mark the second time in three years a TSU running back has surpassed that mark. Renfro started as a longsnapper at TSU before asserting himself into the running back rotation last year en route to a breakout season.
• After several years of offseason changes to the coaching staff, the Tigers finally had stability this offseason with no changes.
• TSU was picked to finish fourth in the SWAC during the annual SWAC Preseason Poll. TSU returns four offensive starters and two on defense.
• Injuries took a major toll for TSU last year as sever- al key players return after season-ending injuries suffered during the Labor Day Classic in linebacker Jacob Williams and quarterback KJ Cooper. Two years ago, Williams was TSU's first 100-plus tackler since 2004 while Cooper led TSU to a Labor Day Classic win in 2024.
• Cris Dishman is the 18th head coach in the history of Texas Southern Football. Dishman inherits a tough task as the program has only had 28 winning seasons in 78 years of existence and hasn't recorded a winning season since 2000.
