Adams, Sampson aim to guide young players about on-field, off-field futures

Former Marietta offensive lineman Mike Adams knows his football, having played and been around the sport most of his life.

What he did not know so much as a high school player was the extra knowledge and preparation it took to perform at the college level — on the field and in the classroom. Daniel Sampson, Adams’ roommate while they interned with the Washington Redskins after their playing days, shared his sentiments. Sampson was ineligible to play his freshman season at Texas Southern because of an incorrect class he took during his senior year of high school.

The two former players often asked one another back then about the little things they could have done to better prepare for college, and they went on to found Driven By Our Ambitions. The group puts on football clinics that not only teach the Xs and Os of the game, but also classroom education to prepare players for college and the real world that comes after.
