TSUSports.com: TSU Men's and Women's Cross Country teams prepare for SWAC Championships

HOUSTON- It has been a long grueling season for the Tigers and Lady Tigers Cross Country teams, performing in several meets throughout the state of Texas and Louisiana. The teams are now about to set trail to Clinton, Miss. for the annual SWAC Cross Country Championships.

Sophomore Jorge Martinez is performing outstandingly well this season being the top finisher for the Tigers.

"Jorge Martinez has actually been one of the most consistent runners we've had this year," said Assistant Coach Xavier Martinez.

"To come in strong at the start of the season and hold that is a pretty huge deal for him," added Martinez. "I feel like he's going to be one of the top guys at conference, so we're not counting him out whatsoever."

Coach Martinez also felt good about the how the team will perform at this years' championships saying, "We're just going to show up and do the best we can. I think the TSU team can really do something this season."

The Lady Tigers are also looking forward to the SWAC Championships this month to conclude this years' season.

"This year hasn't been quite a good season for us in terms of injuries plaguing the season," said Head Coach Pauline Banks. "Hopefully we can put something together and place in the top of the conference," expressed Banks.

Both teams are set to participate in the SWAC Championships later this month that well be held in Clinton, Miss. on October 23th.
