TSU Lady Tigers Bowling Season Preview
2018 Roster 2018 Schedule
HOUSTON – The Texas Southern Women's bowling season will commence next weekend when the Lady Tigers head to New Orleans to compete in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitation, hosted by Tulane University.

Under Head Coach Sabrina Rose, the Lady Tigers have set some impressive goals for this upcoming season.

"Every student athlete needs to actively pursue a 3.5 GPA," said Rose. "Academics come first in our program. Students that have the academic discipline are also the student-athletes that have the athletic discipline needed to exceed."

The Lady Tigers want to make a repeat of their achievements from last year by winning the SWAC championship and compete in the NCAA Championships. Rose is also interested in focusing on individual improvements of each bowler.

"We want to encourage our bowlers to advance their individual skill set each year with personal performance goals," said Rose. "We use innovation to prepare the student-athletes for competition, and continued growth and development of their games."

The Lady Tigers added two newcomers to their roster, Chelsey Kenner, a freshman from Houston, Texas who bowled for the Dobie Longhorns from J. Frank Dobie High School, and Leanna Martinez, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas who bowled for the Antonian Apaches of Antonian College Preparatory High School.

"Leanna was a senior on a team that finished 2nd at regionals and 1st at Texas Bowling Association State Championships," said Rose. "Leanna was a strong contributor to the team's outcome."

The program now has two freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors, and one senior on its roster.

This past weekend, Rose was able to get an early impression on how her team will perform this upcoming season. She was able to see great things out of her veteran players Brittany Torres and Samantha Kriner.

"Brittany Torres and Samantha Kriner demonstrated great skill under pressure at the event," said Rose. "Torres, MVP from SWAC last year, continued leading the team with strong, consistent execution."

She was also impressed with freshman Martinez adding, "Leanna Martinez, competed well, incorporated changes to her physical game, and is committed to a high performance level."

Last season, the Lady Tigers finished with an 18-6 record, resulting in a tiebreaker with the Alabama State Lady Hornets, putting them at second place in the conference. Nevertheless, the Lady Tigers advanced to the NCAA Bowling Championships, but fell to Lincoln Memorial University in the opening round.

Rose looks forward to the new season with high hopes for how her student athletes will perform meet after meet. "Sharing knowledge and developing the student-athletes is our goal," said Rose.

"I have a passion for the sport and I share the team's enthusiasm for this upcoming season, added Rose"
