HOUSTON – The Tigers of Texas Southern University returned to their winning ways Friday when they claimed a 10-inning, 6-5 win over Grambling State.
Gerreck Jimenez knocked home one of TSU's two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game, then scored the game-winning run in the 10th on a passed ball.
TSU (7-13) improved to 7-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's West Division, while Grambling (7-14) fell to 3-4.
Michael Villanueva earned the win in relief for the hometown Tigers, throwing two and two-thirds scoreless innings while striking out three batters and scattering two hits. Seth Oliver started and pitched seven and one-thirds innings with five strikeouts.
Christian Sanchez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including the game-tying single in the eighth that scored Jose Cabreja. Jimenez and Jose Camacho also had multi-hit games for TSU.
The teams resume their series Saturday at MacGregor Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
