BATON ROUGE, La. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University kicked off Southwestern Athletic Conference play on the right foot Friday with a 2-0 win at Southern.

Briana Norwood the most of her return to the TSU lineup after a two-week absence, scoring her first goal of the season in the 57th minute off an assist from Alexia Ladipo to claim what would be the match-winner.

The Lady Tigers (2-4-1, 1-0 SWAC) got added an insurance goal in the 69th minute when Alisa Holloway headed in a goal on a corner kick set piece, with Ladipo again assisting on the score.

Southern remained winless on the season with 0-6 record, falling to 0-1 in SWAC play.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Tigers controlled the pace of play in the second half, holding a 9-2 advantage in shots after the restart. TSU outshot Southern 11-5 for the match.

TSU's freshman goalkeeper Tammy Syron picked up the first victory and first shutout of her collegiate career. She was tested little in the match, as she turned away a single shot on goal in each half.

The Lady Tiger starting defense (Blaylock, Maya Turner, Brooke Ianiero, and Bailey Blalock) stifled Southern's scoring chances throughout the match, but was especially frustrating for the Jaguars in the first 45 minutes. Southern tallied only three shots in the first half despite having five corner kick opportunities prior to restart.

TSU will complete its first SWAC road trip on Sunday when the Lady Tigers visit Jackson State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
