HOUSTON – Texas Southern University's Lady Tigers saw their seventh-inning rally come up short Wednesday as they fell 6-3 at nearby Houston Baptist.

Dominique Tello's pinch-hit, three-run homerun provided all of TSU's scoring as the Lady Tigers (3-2) saw their three-game winning streak snapped.

HBU's Emily Mueller pitched six shutout innings and scattered five hits to pick up the win for the Huskies (4-4). Cecilia Bauer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for HBU, including the game-winner on a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Starting pitcher Tyra Williams absorbed the loss for the Lady Tigers, pitching three and two-thirds innings and giving up three earned runs while striking out one batter. Kreola Moore made her 2017 TSU debut in relief, giving up three earned runs over two and one-thirds innings.

Chanler Powell and Marissa Padron each knocked two base hits for the Lady Tigers. Treshea Wilson and Jocilynn Ellis tallied one hit apiece.

Trailing 6-0 heading into the final inning, Padron led off with a single, which was followed by Madilynn Marek drawing a walk from HBU relief pitcher Brooke Bushman. Ellis then came up and flew out to right, but the Huskies got even more than they expected, when Padron was caught returning to second base.

With Marek still on first, Tiffany Marshall drew a nine-pitch walk. Tello then came to the plate to pinch hit for Terren Vinson, and Tello delivered with a blast over the centerfield fence at Husky Field. TSU was unable to continue their rally, however, as Bushman retired the last batter to preserve HBU's win.

The Huskies and Lady Tigers will meet again on March 28 at Memorial Park. The Lady Tigers' next game is Wednesday, March 1, at Stephen F. Austin. First pitch in Nacogdoches is scheduled for 3 p.m.
