JACKSON, Miss. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University aim for a return to their winning ways this weekend when they open a two-game road trip Saturday at Jackson State. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Texas Southern (6-8) has one win in three Southwestern Athletic Conference games this season. Saturday's contest at Jackson State will be the first road conference game for the Lady Tigers in 2018.
Awaiting TSU is the Lady Tigers of Jackson State (8-5), who won their first three conference games before falling 86-76 at Southern on Monday. Jackson State boasts the league's top offense, averaging 73.5 points per game.
Helping Jackson State with their high-scoring offense is the team's rebounding, which also tops the SWAC with 49.8 caroms. The Lady Tigers from the Magnolia State also lead the conference in offensive rebounding and defensive rebounding.
TSU, meanwhile, has the top shooting offense in the conference, in overall shooting, and from behind the 3-point arc. The Lady Tigers from Houston also have the nation's top scorer in Joyce Kennerson, who is averaging 26.3 points per contest.
Kennerson's name is quickly climbing many of TSU's all-time women's basketball records. In addition to ranking sixth all-time in scoring 1,235 career points, she also ranks seventh in TSU history in 3-pointers made (117), 11th in assists (196), and 12th in steals (152).
TSU's two-game trip will continue Monday when they visit Grambling State. That game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff, and will be aired on the SWAC Digital Network.
