ITTA BENA, Miss. – Four Alabama A&M players recorded double-digit kills as the Lady Bulldogs swept Texas Southern to advance to the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament Finals Saturday afternoon at R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
Alabama A&M won with set scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-21.

The sides traded shots early on, with neither side able to garner significant advantage. With the first set tied 11-11, Terra Brooks began to assert herself for the top-seeded Lady Bulldogs, sparking a 5-2 run for Alabama A&M's biggest advantage of the set to that point, a 16-13 lead.

Though Breyanna York served a pair of aces to bring Texas Southern within one late, the Lady Bulldogs held firm the rest of the way to claim set one.

Alabama A&M opened up a 9-4 advantage to begin set two, coasting through much of the frame with a double-digit advantage. Down 23-13, Texas Southern made a late charge by the hand of Alexis Austin, who put down a trio of kills as Texas Southern put together a 5-1 run to close the gap. However, Alabama A&M regrouped after a quick break to wrap up the frame thanks to a Jaelin Gant kill.

With Austin on serve to begin set three, Texas Southern reeled off a 6-2 run to get in the driver's seat initially, but Alabama A&M stormed back to tie it, as Alana Cox put away a handful of points to lead the rally. From there, Alabama A&M's net defense stepped in to power the top seed to a finals appearance.

Gant and Brooks each posted 11 kills, with Brooks getting 10 digs and Gant adding nine. Cox posted 10 kills on a .625 hit percentage, and Maya Evans added 10 kills. Megan Evans put up 32 assists and eight digs.

Austin's 12 kills were tops among TSU players. Kirby Anderson and April Brown added seven kills each, and York posted 24 assists.
