WACO, Texas – Texas Southern's historic 2016-17 season came to a end Saturday with a 119-30 loss to top-seeded Baylor during the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Tigers (23-10) fell behind early when they missed 18 of their first 20 shots en route as Baylor jumped out to a 34-5 first quarter lead. The Bears' (31-3) advantage only grew from there as Baylor shot 63.2 percent (48 of 76) from the field.

Joyce Kennerson led TSU with 19 points and three assists. Kaitlyn Palmer added eight points. Kennerson, an All-SWAC First Team selection and the Most Valuable Player at the Toyota SWAC Tournament, raised her career points total to 893 at the end of her sophomore season.

Beatrice Mompremier led Baylor with 23 points and 11 rebounds as all of Baylor's players scored in the game.

The game was the Lady Tigers' first-ever contest at the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Tigers played in three consecutive Women's NIT Tournaments between 2013 and 2015; prior to that run, TSU's last trip to the postseason beyond the SWAC Tournament was in 1982, when the Lady Tigers were one of eight teams to advance to the NAIA National Tournament.
