TSUSports.com: Lady Tigers end season at NCAA regionals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University saw their season come to end Saturday with an 8-0 loss to the Texas Longhorns at the College Station regional of the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament.

Stephanie Wong's three-run homerun in the bottom of the second inning provided the game-winning runs for the Longhorns, who claimed the win in five innings. Paige von Sprecken picked up the complete-game win for Texas.

TSU's Lauren Rodriguez absorbed the loss for the Lady Tigers, who finish their season with a record of 25-21. Rodriguez' won-loss record for her junior season ended up at 10-5.

Tyra Williams pitched an inning of relief for the Lady Tigers, giving up three runs and striking out Texas pinch hitter Randel Leahy. Rodriguez gave up five runs over four innings.

Sierra Valdez collected the lone hit for the Lady Tigers on Saturday, knocking a 2-0 pitch from von Sprecken up the middle for a single. Terren Vinson reached base twice on the Longhorns' two errors in the game, and stole two bases Saturday.

Vinson, a freshman from Las Vegas, Nev., also stole a base and collected one of the team's two hits in Friday's 14-0 loss to host Texas A&M. Dominique Tello also knocked a base hit against the Aggies, who opened the tournament with a No. 12 ranking in the NFCA polls.

Texas Southern's trip to the NCAA Regionals was the team's third in four years. The Lady Tigers also participated in the NCAA's premier softball event in 2014 and 2015.

The Lady Tigers won the 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference softball championship, giving them four conference titles in the team's 21 year history. TSU also won the event in 2000, 2014, and 2015.
