NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Texas Southern University's volleyball team dropped its opening contest at the Holiday Inn Express Stephen F. Austin Invitational on Friday, the first match for the Lady Tigers in two weeks due to Hurricane Harvey's impact on Southeast Texas.

The host Ladyjacks defeated the Lady Tigers by scores of 25-9, 25-17, and 25-21.

Nicole Robinson led the Lady Tigers (0-2) with six kills, followed by five kills from Kirby Anderson. Junior setter Asia Howard handed out 12 assists for TSU, while Cassidy Jannson and Paige Chuidian tallied seven digs apiece.

Danae Daron and Anyia Williams posted seven kills apiece for Stephen F. Austin (8-1).

Stephen F. Austin led from start to finish in set one, scoring 11 of the first 12 points before taking the set handily. The Lady Tigers kept pace with their hosts in set two before the Ladyjacks scored six of the set's final seven points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In set three, the Lady Tigers fell behind 17-9 before running off 10 of the next 11 points to take a 19-18 lead, forcing SFA to take both of their timeouts in the set during that run. Robinson knocked down two kills during that stretch, while DeSeanna Murphy also tallied a kill and combined for two assisted blocks with Aundrea Boyland.

SFA would regroup and take a 21-19 lead. The Lady Tigers closed the gap to one point at 22-21 before the Ladyjacks scored the final three points to take the match.
