HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University were unable to complete a season sweep of Sam Houston State as the Bearkats took defeated their visitors 9-1 in six innings Wednesday.

Danielle Sonnier's second home run of the season in the top of the second inning provided the lone run for the Lady Tigers, who fell to 17-10-1 on the season. TSU defeated Sam Houston 5-4 last month at Memorial Park in Houston.

The home run by Sonnier gave the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead, but it was all Sam Houston from that point on. The Bearkats scored four in the bottom of the second, one in the fifth, and finished the game with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Sonnier knocked two base hits in the game, which accounted for all of the Lady Tigers' hits.

The loss was only the third on the road this season for the Lady Tigers. TSU fell to 4-5-1 against Southland Conference opponents, having lost three such games since their win over Sam Houston on March 27.

The Lady Tigers play their final home series this weekend when they host Southern. The first game of the series is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
