NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Texas Southern University's Lady Tigers gave a strong effort but are still in search of their first win of the season after concluding play Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express Stephen F. Austin Invitational.

The Lady Tigers (0-4) were defeated by Sun Belt Conference opponent Little Rock in the morning contest, and then by American Athletic Conference opponent Tulsa in the late match.

Little Rock 3, TSU 0
The Lady Tigers had leads in each of the three sets but were unable to fend off the sweep from the Trojans of Arkansas–Little Rock.

Scores of the match were 25-16, 25-20, and 26-24.

Nicole Robinson led the Lady Tigers with six kills, while Valencia Grayson led the defensive effort with seven digs in her first career start at the libero position. Asia Howard and Alyssa Chuidian tallied 13 assists and seven assists, respectively.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set thanks to five Little Rock errors and kills from Robinson and Cassidy Jannson. The lead would be short-lived, however, as the Trojans clawed their way back and took a 14-12 lead after a stretch when they scored seven out of eight points.

In set three, TSU led by as many as six points and were on the verge of taking the set when they took leads of 23-20 and 24-21. Robinson had three kills in the set, while Kirby Anderson knocked down three of her four match kills in set three. The Lady Tigers were unable to close out the win, as Little Rock scored the final five points, with the last four coming on TSU attack errors.

Marina Avram knocked down 13 kills for Little Rock (3-5), while Veronica Marin had 11 kills and hit .579 while committing no errors.

The Lady Tigers hit .018 (25 kills and 23 errors on 111 attempts), and were held to a sub-.100 hitting percentage in all three sets. Meanwhile, the Trojans hit .243 or better in all three sets.

Tulsa 3, TSU 0
The Golden Hurricane of Tulsa hit .330 for the match and hit .457 or better in sets one and three en route to the sweep of Texas Southern.

Scores of the match were 25-8, 25-23, and 25-15.

Kirby Anderson led the Lady Tigers with six kills and five total blocks while hitting .385 on 13 attempts. Nicole Robinson and Cassidy Jannson knocked down four kills apiece. Valencia Grayson tallied a season-high 16 digs in her second collegiate start.

Set two featured 10 ties and five lead changes as TSU led 23-22 late before the Golden Hurricane scored the final three points to take a two-sets-to-none lead. In set three, Tulsa (5-4) committed only one attacking error and led from start to finish.

The Lady Tigers will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 16, when they travel to South Texas for matches against Incarnate Word (11 a.m.) and Texas–Rio Grande Valley (4 p.m.) in Edinburg.
