HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University returned to their home field for the first time in more than a month Friday as they split a doubleheader with Alabama State.

TSU cruised to a five-inning, 8-0 shutout victory in game one, while the Lady Hornets won the second game 11-5.

The Lady Tigers (11-9) are 3-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Alabama State (9-19) remained in first place in the conference's East Division with a 4-1 league record.

In the opener, Jasmine Fulmore allowed only five hits and one walk while striking out four batters en route to her second shutout of the season. Vanessa Bradford absorbed the loss, giving up eight runs, only three of them earned.

The Lady Tigers jumped in front early, scoring four runs with two outs in the first inning. Madilynn Marek opened the scoring with a bases-loaded walk, scoring Dominique Tello from third base. Sierra Valdez then knocked a ground-rule double to bring home Heaven Benavidez and Gisella Paranich. Marek scored the final run of the inning on Marissa Padron's RBI single.

TSU added three more runs in the third when Benavidez knocked an RBI single, which was followed by Chanler Powell's two-RBI single. The Lady Tigers scored their eighth run in the fifth inning when Kelsey Riley scored a throwing error; the run gave TSU an early victory.

In game two, the Lady Hornets scored five runs in the second and led 9-0 before TSU scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Marek's two-run home run highlighted the inning.
