BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern guard Joyce Kennerson has been recognized as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Kennerson averaged 23.5 points per game and was on the court for all 80 minutes as she led Texas Southern to a 1-1 week. Kennerson scored 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting and pulled in five rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers to a 60-54 win over Mississippi Valley State on Monday.

In a loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, Kennerson shot 9-of-14 from the floor and handed out three assists against the Golden Lions. For the week, Kennerson shot 63 percent (17-of-27) from the floor, and shot 45.4 percent (5-of-11) from the 3-point line. She also made all eight of her free throw attempts and averaged 3.0 assists per contest.
This is the second player of the week honor for the sophomore, who stands second in the SWAC in scoring (17.1 PPG) and first in total points (427). Kennerson recently surpassed 700 points for her TSU career. In 54 games with the Lady Tigers, Kennerson has scored 715 points.
